Altun Ha also served as a trade center, located only seven miles from the sea it is also surrounded by primary broadleaf rainforest. This site, captured world attention when Professor David Pendergast of the Royal Ontario museum discovered the now famous nine and a half pound jade head of the sun god Kinich Ahau in the tomb of a Royal Priest within the main temple of the masonry altars. Prepared stone steps allow visitors to climb atop three of the main temples, in order to capture the beautiful views of this site and the scenic countryside. Enjoy this natural rainforest setting as your guide takes you through some of the best trails that Belize has to offer.
