The Mastroberardino winery, known worldwide as one of the main wine producers of southern Italy, has a special permit from the Italian Government to plant its own grapes inside the excavations of Pompeii and was requested to use the same methods of 2.000 years ago. Each year, the winery produces a wine called "Villa dei Misteri" in limited quantities of (approximately 1,800 bottles) making it not only one of the most refined worldwide wines but also a piece of history!
Arriving in Pompeii, you will meet the agronomist that will open the gates of areas to you that are usually closed to the public and where the Mastroberardino grapes are planted. You will learn about and see the wine techniques of 2,000 years ago. You will explore an ancient cantina where the Pompeians were conserving the wine in large barrels and other amazing pieces of art. Following this exclusive visit, your guide will show you around the main Pompeii's sites covering the lesser-known areas. There a flourishing civilization, buried for 1,700 years, has been brought to life again, and you can see how the citizens lived, loved, worked, played, ate, drank and died. The mosaic floors and the brilliant frescoes which so delighted the Pompeians shine forth; the baths and theatres, the wrestling ground and the luxurious villas with their gardens, even plaster casts of the locals at the moment of asphyxiation are there for your inspection.
Just outside Pompeii excavations, you will visit a local cameo factory before continuing with an hour ride through the Italian countryside bound for the Mastroberardino winery to visit the ancient cantina from 1878 with its beautiful frescos on the roof and all the different wines of the Mastroberardino production. You will learn about the modern methods of the wine production and see the private cellar of the Mastroberardino family before enjoying a buffet lunch accompanied by a wine tasting of 3 different wines. After a 1.5-hour drive, you will return to the ship in Naples.

On this excursion, you will take a relaxing two-hour drive along the Amalfi Coast, the most famous drive in all of Italy, followed by a visit to one of the most famous and beautiful islands, Capri. After a short stop at a local Cameo factory, proceed by mountain road to the town of Amalfi. In the main square, stop to see the magnificent facade of the 12th-century cathedral. Enjoy some free time to explore this famous maritime village before boarding a local motorboat. Be magically transported along the rugged coastline, framed by cliffs that rise from the sea with vineyards and gardens - the island of Capri.
After lunch at a typical local restaurant, visit the Augustus Gardens and be dazzled by the breathtaking colors. Be sure not to miss this wonderful photo opportunity! Then, you'll have some free time to explore the famous "Piazzetta." Stroll through the narrow streets, visit the shops, relax in an outdoor cafe, and enjoy the ambience of this square. Transfer from Capri to Marina Grande to board the jetfoil for the return trip to Naples. There will be a short walk back to the ship.

This excursion will take in Naples' best sites from the comfort of your coach. Leaving the port, your first view of the city takes you back to the 13th century with the Castle Nuovo, a grim and gloomy fortress that served as the residence of the kings of Anjou, Aragon, and the Spanish Viceroys. Continue past the Piazza della Borsa, home to the elaborate Stock Exchange Building and the Galleria Umberto I, lined with beautiful lamps and 19th-century buildings containing some of the most elegant shops and cafes in Naples. A stop will be made at the Piazza Plebiscito; the most monumental and harmonious square in the city, to view the vast 17th-century Royal Palace, San Carlo Opera House, and the Church of St. Francis. At Posillipo Hill, you'll have time for photographs and an excellent panoramic view of the city. You will then enjoy refreshments at a local Neapolitan Cafe. On your return to the ship, you'll pass by Mergellina and the world famous Castle of the Egg in Santa Lucia.

The tour begins departing from the harbour by coach, proceeding to the National Arhcaological Museum, which is classified as one of the most important archaeological museums in Europe. Home to an extraordinary collection of beautiful murals and items from Pompeii and Herculaneum, plus other Roman and Greek artifacts, this museum is one of the most comprehesive in the world. The huge red classic building was originally built as a cavalry barracks, with Charles of Boubon establishing it as a museum in the late 18th century to contain the Farnese collection he inherited from his mother. One of the noteworthy items on display is the immense and over-powering Farnese Bull, a classical Roman sculpture depicting Greek mythological figures. Of course, visitors also flock to the Pompeii collection with its incredible murals, frescoes and mosaics that once decorated the walls and floors of villas, and were preserved under ash after massive eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 A.D. they depict lifelike scenes of amazing artistic quality, with rich red-colored backgrounds and intricate details in bright hues.
Enjoy a short orientation drive of the city, which highlights will include Castel Nuovo, San Carlo Opera House, Umberto Gallery, the former Royal Palace and the Castle of the Egg overlooking the Gulf of Naples. Stop at a typical Neapolitan Pizzeria to sample the real thing. Pizza was invented in Naples in 1830 and it tastes different here than anywhere else.

As you pass through Naples, see Mt. Vesuvius from a distance on your way to the ancient city of Pompeii, which is one of the most famous excavations in the world. Once a thriving empire over 1,900 years ago, it was devastated by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD when 30 feet of volcanic ash and pumice stone covered the city. As you enter Pompeii by the Sea Gate, a short walk takes you to the city's hub, the Forum. Surrounded by lavish temples and porticoes, you'll begin to grasp the lifestyle of the inhabitants. Admire the mansions and the art of wealthy patricians who moved to Pompeii to escape the turmoil of Rome; view countless paintings and inscriptions. Time permitting; you'll stop at a cameo factory where you will have the opportunity to observe local artisans at work in their centuries-old tradition.

Leaving the port, drive south via the motorway towards Mount Vesuvius, Europe's only still-active volcano that is located on the west coast of Naples. At approximately 3,000 feet, begin your trek on foot over narrow paths that zigzag up the mountain another 1,000 feet. Once on the rim of the crater walls, skirt the edge with an official alpine guide while enjoying this natural phenomenon and the panoramic views that includes Naples and its bay.
After visiting this unusual phenomenon, descend along the narrow paths to the parking lot and proceed to Pompeii. Once in Pompeii, enjoy a complimentary soft drink before entering the excavation site. Pompeii is possibly the most famous excavation in the world. There a flourishing civilization, buried for 1,700 years, has been brought to life again and where you can see how the citizens of the greatest empire the world has ever known lived and loved, worked and played, ate and drank and died. Travel from Naples via the motorway and the Campanian coastal route to Sorrento. Enjoy the panoramic scenery of the Bay of Naples as you make your way towards the Sorrentine Peninsula. Once in Sorrento, you will have approximately 1.5 hours on your own to explore, shop and eat in Sorrento's charming flowered-filled streets that offer a wide array of boutiques, souvenir shops, and atmospheric outdoor cafes. Please note that lunch is not included in the tour.
Join a local shuttle and drive to a local lido on the beach. Your guide will designate a meeting time and place and then you will be on your own for approximately 3 hours. You can use the changing rooms and will have the opportunity to relax on the beach, taste the cuisine of the local restaurant or have a cappuccino on the panoramic terrace. A complimentary sun-bed and beach umbrella will be provided for you. After a relaxing day, re-board the coach for the return trip to the ship in Naples.
