This half-day trip takes you to the Maya Site of Altun Ha. Three plazas and thirteen structures mark the epicenter of this once ceremonial site of the ancient civilization known as the Maya of MesoAmerica. On this one-hour guided tour of the site you will learn of many aspects of Ancient Maya way of life, practices and ceremonies.

Board an air- conditioned motor coach for a one-hour drive surrounded by beautiful lush tropical forests. At the Caves the Branch River which winds through the Maya Mountains, you will hike with your tube for about 45 minutes down a jungle trail. Your guide will point out plants, roots and herbs used by the ancient Maya for medicinal purposes. When you reach the area where the river meanders through an underground cave system, the guide will provide you a headlight. Hop in and let the slow current take you along past incredible stalactites and stalagmites. On several occasions you will emerge into the sunlight, then re- enter the underground river system. After over an hour of tubing, youll be ready to enjoy a picnic lunch of freshly prepared chicken or beef, rice, beans and fresh juice. There will be time after to swim, explore or just relax.

Your adventure begins after a one- hour drive from Belize City to Tower Hill, where you will board a riverboat for a 90- minute cruise of the New River, with its spectacular rainforest, mangroves, orchids and birds. Disembarking at the northern end of the New River Lagoon, youll enjoy a Belize style lunch. Then begin your 90-minute tour of Lamanai, once the largest Maya ceremonial site in Mesoamerica and occupied as early as 1500 B.C. The first stone buildings appeared here between 800 and 600 B.C. Huge masks depicting dead rulers and gods seem to materialize out of the rainforest amid the chatter of birds and the haunting calls of howler monkeys. Your guide will point out the copal and ramon (breadnut) trees, of great importance in ancient times.

Board a speedboat for a one-hour trip along the barrier reef to a popular Marine Reserve and the famous Shark Ray Alley. After youve snorkeled in the clear waters and had a personal encounter with nurse sharks and graceful stingrays, youll cruise to a nearby caye for a barbecue lunch at a beachside cafe/bar. There will be time to explore the shops of the resort town of San Pedro.
