Cartagena, Colombia

    Sample shore excursions:
  • Best of Cartagena: This informative tour will take you to the highlights of Cartagena. Your guide will take you to the Fort of San Felipe de Barajas, one of the greatest Spanish Military engineering constructions in South America, Inquisition Palace, Las Bovedas (The Dungeons) for some handicraft shopping and the Church of San Pedro Claver. A 30 minute stop at the Pierino Gallo Mall will be made to browse the gift shops.
  • Fort of San Jose de Bocachica: Visit one of Cartagena's most impressive fortifications steeped in history and folklore. Your motorized vessel will whisk you to the San José de Bocachica fort in just 30 minutes. Once at the fort, you'll enjoy a guided tour of this historic structure originally built in the late 1700's to guard the entrance of the port.
  • Mangroves & Swamp Ecological Tour: This tour will take you by canoe into the "Swamp of the Virgin" which is an important ecosystem. See the flora and fauna that encompasses this fascinating mangrove system. Enjoy a folkloric show and relax at the beach or pool at Las Americas Hotel.
  • Old City Walking Tour: Learn about the fascinating history of Cartagena, Colombia. Your narrated walking tour will leave you with an idea of the rich and vibrant culture and history of this former colonial town.
  • Rosario Island Tour: The Rosario Islands are composed of 27 islands and are located just 24 miles from Cartagena. You'll be taken by speedboat to visit this National Natural Park. A visit to the aquarium at Isla de San Martin is included. Watch the dolphin and shark shows before your lunch break. Spend the rest of your time at the beach relaxing, snorkeling or sunbathing. Please wear your swimsuit and bring a towel. Optional snorkel exccursion at additional cost and snorkel gear for rent available.
  • Panoramic Tour Around the Bay: Board a 17th Century replica of a Spanish Galleon, on this cruise around the Inner Bay of Cartagena. Your guide will provide you with commentary of this city and its people. Enjoy refreshments and an entertaining folk show onboard.

Arica, Chile

    Sample shore excursions:
  • Arica & Ancient Cultures: Travel by bus to the Lluta Valley to view the Lluta Geoglyphs. Following a stop at the town of Poconchile, continue on to Azapa followed by a visit to the San Miguel de Azapa Archaeological and Anthropological Museum, San Marcos Cathedral and a handicraft market. It is recommended that guests wear a hat and or sunscreen protection. Important notice for all tours operated in Arica: Transportation in Arica is not air-conditioned.
  • Atacama Coastal Walk: View the beach resorts of El Laucho and La Lisera in route to El Moro de Aria.. Arriving at Corazones Anzata, participants will walk over sandy hills and through caves & caverns arriving at Puntilla, were guests may view sea lions from a distance.Due to the nature of this tour, guests should be in good physical condition. It is recommended guests wear comfortable walking shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen and hat.
  • Chilean Altiplano & Lauca National Park: Traveling through the Lluta Valley by bus, view the geolglyphs before arriving in the pre-Inca settlement of Poconchile. The tour continues to Pukara de Copaquilla, a 12th century pre-Inca village and onto the Lauca National Park was a stop will be made at the abandoned pre-Hispanic village of Parinacota. Stroll through the town amongst carefully restored mud-brick and thatched-roofed houses and view a small 17th century colonial church, which is considered a National Monument.
  • Cuzco & Machu Picchu Adventure: Departing Arica by plane, this 3-day overland tour encompasses the city Cuzco, with its archaeological relics. Overnighting in Cuzco, travel by train to the “Lost City of the Incas,” Machu Picchu. On day-3, guests will rejoin the ship in Lima (Callao), Peru. Due to the high altitude at Cuzco, please consult your doctor before booking. Anyone with a heart or respiratory condition should not join this tour. Please note the itinerary in which the attractions are visited may vary. Minimum age: 10.
  • City Tour and Geoglyphs: Experience the sites of Arica by bus. Visit the San Miguel de Azapa Archaeological and Anthropological Museum, San Marcos Cathedral, a 19th-century Gothic edifice and a typical Chilean handicraft market. Filming is not allowed in the museum. Important notice for all tours operated in Arica: Transportation in Arica is not air-conditioned.

Puerto Montt, Chile

    Sample shore excursions:
  • Alerce Mountain Lodge: Go off-road by 4x4 then board a small hand-drawn raft to Alerce Mountain Lodge. Optional 2-hour hike to Oro Verde Mayor is available. View the Fountain of Hope. Following lunch, reboard the 4x4 for the return trip. Includes a two-hour mountain climb in a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
  • Andean Lake National Park Canoe Trip: Explore the beauty of Laguna Escondida by canoe. At Loreley Island, participate in some mild trekking and weather permitting, go ashore on “El Encanto” Island for a mild trek. Guests should wear light colored clothing to avoid attracting horseflies, a jacket, hat and comfortable shoes for light trekking, sunglass, and sunscreen and bring a towel. Given the nature of this tour and ones physical abilities, the activity level may range from moderate to strenuous during certain sections of the tour.
  • Chilean Wine & Sausages by the Lake: Experience famous Chilean wines and local sausages by one of the most beautiful lakes in Southern Chile, Lake Llanquihue. You'll stop at a private club where Chilean wine and Cecina Mdinger's traditional sausages will be served as you experience the spectacular view overlooking Lake Llanquihue, Chilean wine and Cecina Mdinger's traditional sausages
  • Osorno Volcano Photo Safari: Take in such sites as the Main Square Puerto Montt, Lake Llanquihue, Mount Osorno and Petrohue Falls. Continue to the Vicente Perez Rosales National Park, where you can stroll through the forest to Laguna Verde. At the “La Burbuja” crater, stroll and take in the sites. 30-40 minutes will be spent walking over uneven terrain. Guests should wear sturdy walking shoes and wear light colored clothing to avoid attracting horseflies. Depending on weather, this tour may be operated in reverse order.
  • Petrohue River Rafting: Experience an exhilarating class III-IV rafting trip down the Rio Petrohue River, one of Chile's glacial rivers. Neoprene wetsuits, neoprene shoes, spray jacket and safety helmet are provided and a picnic lunch will be served on the riverbank. The minimum age to participate is 12 years of age and a parent or guardian must accompany all guests under the age of 18. Please note that due to the nature of this tour, guests must be in good physical condition and be a strong swimmer.
  • Puerto Montt, Puerto Varas & Frutillar: This sightseeing tour by motor coach takes in the sites of Puerto Montt, and the towns of Puerto Varas and Frutillar. Stops will be made in Frutillar, a regional museum and handicraft market.

Punta Arenas, Chile

    Sample shore excursions:
  • Adventure Tour to Laguna Parrillar: You will depart from the pier towards the Laguna Parrillar National Reserve. Set out on a light guided trek to visit seven eco-stations of the park's trail. During the trek, you will learn about the southern flora and fauna. Drive back to Punta Arenas. Before returning to the pier a stop will be made at the Plaza de Armas Main Square. This tour is not recommended for guests with walking difficulty. Formerlly 4x4 Adventure to Laguna Parillar
  • Estancia Fitz Roy & Otway Sound: Following a 48 mile drive by motor coach, you will transfer to a ferry for a cruise to the other side of island and Fitz Roy Farm. Experience the every day life of a Patagonian rancher with sheep dog, sheep shearing and cow milking demonstrations. Following lunch, reboard the motor coach for the drive back to the ship in Punta Arenas. It is recommended that guests dress in layers, bring a waterproof windbreaker or jacket and wear comfortable walking shoes.
  • Magdalena Island Natural Penguin Reserve: Following a two-hour ferry ride, visit Magdalena Island, home to one of the largest Magellan Penguin colonies in Southern Chile. There is approximately 30 minutes of walking over uneven terrain. Comfortable walking shoes and suitable clothing for cold wind and possible rain are recommended. Depending on the transportation used and wind conditions, the duration of the tour may range from 5 1/2-6 1/2 hours. Flash photography, feeding or getting close to the penguins is not permitted.
  • Punta Arenas City & Museum Tour: This tour by motor coach combines local sightseeing with a visit to the Mayorino Borgatello and the Patagonia Institute, an open-air museum. Guests must be capable of navigating a long flight of stairs to reach some of the displays at the Mayorino Borgatello Museum. Most of the display descriptions are written in Spanish. Weather is unpredictable in Punta Arenas thus it is recommended that guests wear long pants and bring a jacket.
  • Penguin Caves: Travel 50 miles by motor coach to Otway Bay to visit the Penguin Caves where the Magellanic penguins nest. Because this is a protected sanctuary, you will walk approximately one mile each way to reach the penguin burrows dug into the sandy shoreline. Guests must be able to walk approximately two miles over unpaved and uneven surfaces. Because it is windy and cold, guests should dress warm, bring a jacket and wear comfortable walking shoes.
  • Rio Los Ciervos, Fort Bulnes and Port Famine: Visit a recreation of Fort Bulnes followed by a visit to Port Famine. A stop will be made the country house built in the early 1900's with displays depicting the history of the first settlers and objects created by the pioneers. Before leaving, home made pisco sour will be served while a short presentation of the local dances “Cueca" is performed. Punta Arenas is normally cold and windy thus it is suggested that guests wear long pants, a warm jacket and comfortable walking shoes.
