Your adventure today begins with a drive through Skagway’s historic and lively downtown. As you pass the rustic old buildings and the wooden sidewalks imagine the thousands of prospectors and colorful characters who once trod these streets on their way to the gold fields of the Yukon. It may be difficult to imagine that during the Gold Rush era Skagway had a population of 20,000! Make a brief stop at the Gold Rush Cemetery where some of the notorious residents are buried and admire some impressive waterfalls before finally leaving this compact little town and entering the magnificent vast wilderness of soaring mountains, rushing rivers and natural beauty beyond.

Travel up the scenic Klondike Highway to the White Pass Summit. Along the way you will see icy lakes, glaciers and stunning waterfalls during scenic stops at Pitch falls and the Moore Bridge Turnout and listen to captivating stories of the Klondike Gold Rush. When you arrive at the White Pass Summit enjoy another scenic stop viewing the wild beauty of the Tormented Valley of British Columbia. At the “Welcome to Alaska” sign, you may want to take some souvenir pictures.

Make your way back to Skagway and visit the delightful Jewell Gardens, a historic site rich with Gold Rush history. During your guided tour through the garden you’ll learn about Alaskan growing conditions and see some of the huge vegetables and organic produce grown here as well as the beautiful flowers. Afterwards, enjoy some delicious refreshments, all of which have been grown organically at Jewell Gardens. Then you may wish to spend some free time exploring Skagway on your own before returning to the ship.
