Former foreign correspondent for The New York Times for more than a decade, Mr. Shuster served as the bureau chief in London, Saigon and Rome, covering events that took him on reporting trips to more than 60 countries in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. As the foreign editor at the Los Angeles Times for 12 years, he directed some 35 correspondents in the coverage of major world events, including the collapse of communism and the Berlin Wall, the Tiananmen Square massacre, the Gulf War, troubles in the Middle East, evolution in South Africa, tragedies in Africa and Yugoslavia. He is now Senior Consulting Editor of the Los Angeles Times and, given his global experience, focuses on international affairs.
- Roman Pryjomko (Rome, Italy) -
Geographer, author and senior technical advisor on development issues, Roman holds degrees from Kingston University, London and the University Of Miami, Florida. He has resided in 9 countries on three continents and undertaken assignments in over 40 countries on topics ranging from the environment, governance reform, violence prevention and poverty reduction. He is co-founder of St Gabriel Home, a charity that rescues imprisoned children in Arusha, Tanzania and in 2004, published a memoir Someone, Somewhere – Encounters with People and Places. As an avid traveller and passionate observer of people and places, his presentations are thought-provoking and anecdotal; embracing cultural and physical geography, while highlighting the impacts of globalization, terrorism, poverty, climate change and shifting geo-politics worldwide. Roman is presently undertaking projects in Tanzania, Abu Dhabi and Afghanistan and working on a new book entitled The Colours of Spring about re-discovering lost cultural roots and ancestral memories. He divides his time between homes in Krakow, Poland, Vienna, Austria and his favourite destination, Africa.
- Dr. John McMichan (Scottsdale, AZ) -
Born in Melbourne, Australia, John McMichan obtained his medical education at Monash University and then spent time in Surgery and Surgical Research at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne. After a period as a Ship's Surgeon, John with his wife Jan, moved to Rochester, Minnesota where he joined the staff of the Mayo Clinic specializing in Critical Care Medicine, Anesthesiology and Medical Education. Because of their love of passenger ships, John and Jan have taken many cruises to all parts of the world and now, as John has retired from clinical practice, he is a frequent lecturer at sea discussing a variety of medical topics in a light and informative manner and providing take-home messages for better health and longer life.
- Jan Wahl (Sausalito, CA) -
Vancouver magazine called her San Francisco's sharp-witted solo answer to Siskel and Ebert. Recognized as a woman of many hats, film critic Jan Wahl joined KRON 4 in October 1990. Sporting a different chapeau each week, she critiques recent movie releases, reviews new videos, conducts celebrity interviews and offers interesting background on show business. In addition to her work at KRON 4, Wahl provides cultural and show business reports for KCBS Radio. She is also a columnist for the San Francisco Examiner, Marinscope newspapers, the Nob Hill Gazette and Bay Area Businesswoman.
