Halifax, Nova Scotia. Bluenose schooners once sailed the world from Halifax, possibly the greenest city in Canada's Maritime Provinces. Fast and nimble, they preyed on enemy ships and brought their booty to the vast warehouses along Privateer's Wharf. Take a tour of Halifax' restored Historic Properties, or head out of town to the charming Peggy's Cove.
Sample shore excursions:
- Valley & Vineyard. - Travel through the heart of Nova Scotia's beautiful, fertile Annapolis Valley, an area known for its world-famous Fundy tides, French Acadian history, lush countryside of fields and orchards and top-quality wine. Enjoy a brief tour at the Grand Pre Winery and after lunch, take a short drive to Fox Hill Cheese, a sixth generation family farm where you will see how cheese is made.
- Nature & Whale Watching Adventure. - Board the Haligonian III - a purpose built whale-watching vessel. Listen to your guide's full commentary as you take on the wonderful sites and wildlife along the coastlines of George's and Mc Nab's Island before entering the Great North Atlantic to experience the majestic views of the world's largest mammals. Enjoy the authentic maritime experience of bringing in live lobster traps while the onboard naturalist answers all of your questions.
- Titanic - The Halifax Connection. - Your tour encompasses all aspects of Halifax's connection to the sinking of the Titanic. Immerse yourself in history at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, which houses an excellent permanent exhibit on the disaster. Compare the details of this devastating event to that of the Halifax Explosion, which occurred just five years later.
- Lunenburg & Mahone Bay With Halifax Highlights. - Experience Nova Scotia's legendary South Shore, renowned for its quaint fishing villages and rugged coastal beauty. First stop on this coastal expedition is Mahone Bay, land of wooden boats and wooden churches. A little further along the coastal route is the striking waterfront town of Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Returning to Halifax, your tour will include many of the city's highlights and an account of its unique history.
