Legendary Bangkok Tour

Explore Bangkok's legendary Grand Palace on a walking tour. View the fabled Emerald Buddha and explore the “Venice of the East” on a Chao Phraya River cruise. Attend a cultural performance after a traditional Thai lunch.
  • WHAT YOU VISIT
Grand Palace - Now reserved for royal ceremonies and state occasions, the palace complex was once the residence of the Kings of Thailand. Beautifully situated on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, the palace’s major buildings are topped by glittering spires with soaring finials and are decorated with gilt and colored-glass mosaics. Your visit to the palace features a one-hour guided walking tour of the grounds.
Wat Pra Keo - Known as the Royal Chapel of the Emerald Buddha, this is one of Buddhism’s most magnificent monasteries and one of the most celebrated sites in all Thailand. At the heart of the monastery is a Buddha carved from a single piece of emerald-green jasper, perched atop a gilded pedestal.
  • YOUR CHAO PHRAYA RIVER CRUISE
Bangkok has long been hailed as the "Venice of the East." Board your riverboat for a leisurely cruise along the Chao Phraya River and down the canals of the city’s Thonburi district. Cruise past Wat Arun - known as the Temple of the Dawn. This wat on the west bank of the Chao Phraya once served as the Royal Chapel. Your cruise also takes in Phra Prang, a 260-foot-high pagoda decorated with ceramic tiles and fragments of multi-colored porcelain.
  • SHOPPING
Browse for souvenirs and gifts including silk, basketry, ceramics, woodcarvings, clothing and more at the Arts and Crafts Market.
  • LUNCH
A lunch featuring classical Thai dishes will be served at a local restaurant.
  • CULTURAL PERFORMANCE
A cultural performance of royal Thai dances follows lunch. Traditionally performed only in the inner court of the Royal Palace, court dances featured women - men were not allowed to perform. (Today, young men fill many of the athletic roles in the dances.) The spectacular costumes and angular, yet sinuous movements of Thai classical dance remain a central element of national culture.
  • WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
Board your motorcoach at the pier and travel through Bangkok passing Chinatown and the local wholesale flower market enroute to the Emerald Buddha Temple. Continue on to the Grand Palace. (Your visit to the Grand Palace involves walking for approximately one hour through open courtyards, exposed to the hot sun and humidity.) After your palace tour, walk a short distance to the Chao Phraya River to board your riverboat. Lunch is followed by a cultural performance and free time for shopping.
  • SPECIAL NOTES
Suitable attire is required for palace and temple visits. Shorts are not permitted. Women must have their shoulders and knees covered. Turtleneck shirts for men are not allowed. Wear comfortable low-heeled, closed-toe (no open toes or heels) walking shoes. Shoes must be removed before entering temples.
