Shurijo Castle & Kokusai Street Tour

Experience Okinawa’s past and present on a tour of Naha city. Tour Shurijo Castle and visit its Seiden or Main Hall. Enjoy approximately 50-minutes of free time to explore famed Kokusai Street. Its mix of department stores, restaurants and small souvenir stores blends the cosmopolitan with a bit of local color.

  • WHAT YOU VISIT
Shurijo Castle - The vermilion-colored castle was the seat of power during the 500-year reign of the Ryukyuan Kingdom. Destroyed in World War II and rebuilt in 1992, the castle is surrounded by stone walls and beautiful gates leading to the Seiden or Main Hall.
Kokusai Street - Naha's commercial heart is this "International Street" of hotels, department stores, theaters and restaurants.
Enjoy approximately 50-minutes of free time to stroll through an area that combines cosmopolitan flavor with genuine folk appeal.
Makishi Public Market - Located on the Main Market Street running south from a halfway point on Kokusai-dori Anvenue. Visit the market on foot; the "kitchen of Naha" is full of energy and excitement.

  • SHOPPING
Browse for souvenirs and other goods at the Shurijo Castle gift shop and along Kokusai Street.

  • WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
Board your motorcoach at the pier for the approximately 30-minute drive to Naha City. There your route travels past Naminoue Bridge, the Prefectural Government Office, designed by famed architect Kurokawa Kisho, and Ryutan Pond en route to Shurijo Castle. After your castle visit, continue on to Kokusai Street.

  • SPECIAL NOTES
Photography is permitted on the grounds of Shurijo Castle but not in the castle museum. Visitors to Shurijo Castle must negotiate steep steps and uneven surfaces. The castle is not wheel chair accessible. Not recommended for passengers with limited mobility. Wear comfortable, sturdy walking shoes. Shoes must be removed during the visit to main hall of Shurijyo Castle.
We suggest passengers carry local currency for purchases.
The Ryukyu Kingdom Festival will be held in the Shurijyo Castle area on November 1, 2008. Passengers should expect road restrictions, possible detours, crowds and delays. Tour itineary may be modified.
The Naha Festival will be held in the area of Kokusai Street October 11–13, 2008. Passengers should expect road restrictions, possible detours, crowds and delays. Tour itineary may be modified.
