View Marblehead with its rich nautical heritage, and Salem, home to the notorious 17th century witch-hunt.
Marblehead Once devoted to fishing and trade, Marblehead harbor is home today to world-class yachts. The narrow streets of the Historic District are lined with graceful 18th century buildings. Across the causeway on Marblehead Neck stand the mansions built by Boston’s elite at the turn of the century. Chandler Hovey Park affords views of the harbor on one side and dramatic ocean views on the other.
Witch Museum In 1692, witchcraft hysteria overwhelmed superstitious Salem Village after young women fell ill and accused innocent townspeople of sorcery. The museum theater presents a moving and historically accurate dramatic presentation on the witch-hunt and the resulting executions. After the presentation, tour the newly opened display area, which features lifelike figures that answer your questions about witches, past and present.
Salem Chestnut Street in Salem is often called the "most beautiful street in America" for its unrivaled examples of Federal architecture. As you pass by the waterfront, your guide recounts tales of Salem’s past and the glory days of the China trade.
Marblehead Neck Snap a photo from Hovey Park, overlooking the beautiful harbor and historic Marblehead Light.
Your driving tour of the old port of Marblehead passes beautiful 18th-century homes set amidst ancient elms on winding streets, along with the summer homes of 19th- century millionaires on Marblehead Neck. Your route encompasses both Salem’s dark part and its glory days at the center of the China trade.
