Old Monaco & The Royal Palace

The Grimaldis have ruled the Principality for over 600 years. Explore the narrow streets of their old city of Monaco on a guided walk. Tour the Royal Palace using an audio wand and view the state apartments and the Throne Room. Visit 15th century St. Nicholas Cathedral, the final resting place of Princess Grace and Prince Rainier.
  • WHAT YOU VISIT
Old Monaco - Your guided walking tour travels the narrow, twisting lanes and vaulted passageways of the old city. The picturesque buildings date back to the 14th century.
Royal Palace - The Grimaldis have held the principality for over 600 years. Located in the west end of the old city, the Royal Palace, most of which dates from the 15th and 16th centuries, faces the Place du Palais and still retains its medieval towers. An audio player narrates the palace’s highlights as you tour the ornate state apartments, including the First Empire style Throne Room and the Chambre d’York.
St. Nicholas Cathedral - The cathedral is built on the site of a 13th-century church and is the site of the royal tombs. Princess Grace and Prince Rainier are interred in the cathedral, located in the heart of the old city. Thousands come each year to pay their respects.
  • SHOPPING
Enjoy time in the old town of Monaco to browse through the many charming shops.
  • WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
From the tender pier, a city bus transports you on the approximately 10-minute drive up the hill to Old Monaco, where you begin your walking tour.

Medieval Villages Of The French Riviera

Discover the medieval villages of the Cote d’Azur. Stroll the narrow lanes and explore the elegant shops and galleries in St. Paul de Vence. Visit ancient Grasse, a village of towering stone houses that is also the perfume capital of Provence.
  • WHAT YOU VISIT
St Paul de Vence - Seated on a craggy hilltop, this medieval walled town has changed little over the centuries. Your guide escorts you through the narrow streets of the village to the central square. Then enjoy free time to wander the cobbled streets, taking in the picturesque buildings and browsing through the shops and art galleries.
Grasse - The ancient town of Grasse is set on a fabulous site, cradled by sheltering hills and surrounded by flowers, and has splendid views all the way to the sea. The old Provencal town’s narrow alleys are linked by steep ramps or steps that wind between houses four, even five, stories tall. Grasse is the center of the perfume industry, and at almost any time of year, the air is laden with fragrance.
  • PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES
Vence - A delightful winter and summer resort standing on a rock promontory in countryside where mimosa, roses, carnations and violets are cultivated and where olive trees grow. It is a picturesque old market town, favored by artists and art galleries.
Tourettes-sur-Loup - A charming well preserved medieval village perched on a rocky spur 1300 feet above sea level; the village’s outer houses form the city ramparts. Known as the "City of Violets," flowers have been grown for nearly a century in the terraced olive groves all around the village.
Bar-sur-Loup - Clinging to the hillside, between the Loup River and its tributaries, Bar-sur-Loup is attractively sited on a hillside surrounded by terrace of orange trees and beds of jasmine and violets. The narrow streets of the old town wind around the massive 16th-century castle with its four corner towers and ruined keep.
  • SHOPPING
Perfume Factory - As well as being a base for the major fragrance manufacturers, Grasse is the hub of an idyllic industry of small flower farms and perfume factories. You will have the opportunity, if you choose, to visit one of the factories to get a general idea of the manufacturing process and purchase some perfume.
  • LUNCH ON YOUR OWN
There is plenty of time during your visit to St. Paul de Vence to have lunch on your own at one of the many cafés or browse among the many craft, art, jewelry and souvenir shops.
  • WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
From Monte Carlo, travel to Nice, driving along the Promenade de Anglais. Turn inland past the medieval villages of Cagnes-sur-Mer and La Colle-sur-Loup, admiring the countryside’s rolling hills and rich valleys, on your way to St. Paul de Vence
