Colon is the second largest city in Panama, situated on the Atlantic coast at the Caribbean end of the Panama Canal. It was made a duty-free port in 1953 and is the world's largest Free Trade Zone outside Hong Kong.
Treasure Hunting. The colorful history of this Caribbean province is shaped by stories of scavenging pirates lurking in these waters, and gold rush 49ers braving the Panama jungles to seek riches in California. Today, tourists are the bargain hunters in Colon, and there is great shopping and savings to be explored.
Fort San Lorenzo. This well-preserved ruin on a high point of land overlooking where the Chagres River meets the sea, was once a colonial fortress to help protect Panama from pirates.
Portobelo. This small town is worth visiting for its interesting and historic ruins. In the 1600s, the Royal Custom House is where gold and silver from Peru was stored before it was shipped to Spain.
Stretching along the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, the Limon province is one of the most beautiful locations in the world -- a magical mixture of mangroves, pristine beaches, waterfalls, volcanoes, lush tropical rainforests and amazing wildlife.
Costa Flores Tropical Gardens. Breathe in the intoxicating floral scents at the Costa Flores Tropical Gardens, the largest in the world.
Colon Caribe Estuary. Experience the verdant rain forests on a Pontoon Boat adventure up the Colon Caribe Estuary.
Aerial Tram. Take the fascinating Aerial Tram ride, as featured on the Discovery Channel, through the forest canopy and its hanging gardens, or climb aboard the famous Jungle Train to explore deep into the jungles where beauty and beasts abound.
