This Caribbean island is covered by a lush tropical forest, with the mist-enshrouded Mount Liamuiga at its center. St. Kitts is part of a tiny two-island independent state with Nevis, and natural preservation here is paramount as their law states no building may be taller than the surrounding palm trees.

Board your transportation for the short transfer to the St. Kitts Scenic Railway. Built a century ago to haul cane from the fields to the sugar mills, the railroad features a train of double-decked cars built specifically for touring. Each car’s upper level features a spacious open-air observation deck for panoramic views and a lower air-conditioned deck with expansive vaulted windows. Island ambiance is evoked with comfortable rattan furniture, complimentary specialty drinks, island music and colorful tales of Caribbean history. The track hugs St. Kitts’ northeast coastline, passing rippling fields of sugarcane stretching from the shore to the mountains. Cross tall steel bridges spanning deep canyons and wind past small villages and farms as your conductor points out the many sights of interest. During your trip, enjoy a view of the neighboring islands which include Nevis, the birthplace of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton.

Board your Safari or 4x4 tranportation and travel winding roads past cane fields and small villages to the base of the mountain. Follow your guides on this rigorous hike that ascends approximately 3,800 feet to the summit of Mt. Liamuiga. Your route follows narrow trails with exposed roots and rocks through the island cloud forest. After approximately 2.5 hours of hiking you reach the summit. Two lookouts offer views of the crater below or, weather permitting, one of the many islands surrounding St. Kitts. Take in the vistas, rest, and enjoy a beverage and light snack before descending. Meet your transportation at the base of the mountain for the return to the ship.

Board your coach for the drive along the rugged southeast peninsula to White House Cove. There you meet your guide, receive your safety equipment, and are assigned to a two-person kayak. After a kayak lesson and safety briefing, set out down the unspoiled coast. Paddle at your own pace on the approximately 90- minute trip to a secluded cove, where your knowledgeable guide takes you on a snorkel tour of a patch reef. Then kayak to Friars Bay, where you enjoy a well-deserved rest, cold fresh fruit juice, and island snacks before returning to the pier by minivan. Kayak, snorkeling equipment including safety vest, professional instruction and supervision, and transportation included.
