Cruise to Tortola, British Virgin Islands
with Princess Cruises

Tortola, the largest island of the British Virgin Islands, is a peaceful getaway for nature lovers. Tortola is Spanish for "Land of the Turtle Dove," so named for the shape of the island. Characterized by rugged mountain peaks, white-sand beaches, banana trees and clusters of palms, this sailor's paradise has a distinct nautical charm and West Indian flavor.

Tortola Historical Tour
Experience some of the island’s colorful heritage on a trip that visits the Kingston Church, colonial sugar mills, and the Old Government House Museum.

Board your open-air safari bus or air-conditioned van and drive to the “Sunday Morning Well,” the sight of the emancipation of the slaves in B.V.I. Continue on to the Kingston Church, which served as the island’s Anglican Church and school in 1807. Head east for a charming drive through the H. Laverty Stout College to the overlook of Josiah's Bay Ruins, a former sugar mill. Next, descend to sea level for a brief visit to the small and rustic 400-year-old Callwood Rum Distillery still in operation. Your final stop is the Old Government House Museum for a self-guided tour before returning to downtown Road Town for shopping or return to the ship. If you remain in town, you are responsible for your return to the ship.

Tortola Scenic Drive & Cane Garden Bay Beach
Travel through Tortola by open-air safari bus, enjoy several scenic photo stops, and relax on the white sands of Cane Garden Bay.

Board your open-air safari bus and travel through Road Town to Ridge Road for panoramic views of Tortola and the neighboring U.S. and British Virgin Islands. Continue to Cane Garden Bay, a picturesque white-sand beach with sheltering palms. Take a dip in the crystal-clear waters and enjoy a complimentary beverage.

The Baths At Virgin Gorda
Journey across Sir Francis Drake Channel to Virgin Gorda and its famous Baths. Departing the ship, you’ll travel via motorized launch for an approximately 45-minute cruise to Virgin Gorda, where an open-air safari bus will be waiting to transfer you the short distance to the Baths. The Baths were formed eons ago by volcanic activity , which resulted in the huge boulders being stacked one upon another. The massive boulders, some seemingly as large as houses, form secluded beaches and unusual grottos for you to explore. There is a marked trail winding through the boulders for those who want a little bit of adventure. You’ll have approximately two hours to explore, swim or enjoy the beaches prior to the return transfer back to the ship.

Tortola Dolphin Encounter
Enjoy the experience of a lifetime with an in-water encounter with dolphins in a natural lagoon. After a short transfer you’ll arrive at the dolphin lagoon where you’ll be met by an experienced dolphin trainer. Then after a short orientation you’ll put on a safety vest and descend by steps onto the submerged platform. Under the guidance of the trainer you’ll have the chance to interact with the dolphin. Typically you’ll have the opportunity to kiss, hug and touch the dolphins while the trainer provides information on the anatomy and life of these marvelous marine mammals. After the encounter you can shower and change before watching a video of the session. A video and photos of your encounter will be available for purchase.

Tropical Forest Hike & Beach
This excursion visits two of Tortola’s most popular attractions — Sage Mountain National Park and one of its beautiful beaches.

Board your open-air safari bus and drive along the island’s scenic Ridge Road to Sage Mountain National Park. Sage Mountain towers 1,716 feet above sea level and is the highest peak in the Virgin Islands. Enjoy an approximately one-hour guided walk along one of the nature trails as your guide points out many of the indigenous plants and offers commentary. Though not technically a rainforest, Sage Mountain offers a wide variety of tropical trees and plants. Continue to one of Tortola’s picturesque white-sand beaches. Here you have approximately one hour to swim, sunbathe, or simply relax. A brief stop will be made at the small and rustic 400-year-old Call Rum Distillery prior to your return to the ship.

Tortola Highlights Cane Garden Bay & Beach
For an overview of the beautiful island of Tortola, this tour is ideal. You’ll depart the capital city of Road Town on an open-air safari bus, traveling to the J.R. O’Neal Botanical Gardens for a short self-guided walking tour through the tropical flora and fauna. You’ll then ascend to the ridge road and enjoy from several vantage points outstanding panoramic views of Tortola and the neighboring U.S. and British Virgin Islands. Next you’ll make your way to Cane Garden Bay, a picturesque white-sand beach with sheltering palms. You’ll have plenty of time to take a dip in the crystal-clear waters and enjoy a complimentary beverage. Afterward, you can take in the island scenery on your return journey to the pier.

Tortola North Shore & Pusser's Landing
Explore Tortola’s north shore on an excursion that travels along the picturesque roads, stops at Windy Hill that overlooks beautiful Cane Garden Bay, and visits the quaint village of Pusser’s Landing.

Board your open-air safari bus or air-conditioned van and travel from Road Town along some of Tortola’s most scenic roads to Sky World. Perched some 1,500 feet above sea level, the observation platform offers panoramic views of Tortola and the surrounding British and U.S. Virgin Islands. Head to Windy Hill that overlooks Cane Garden Bay, a beautiful white-sand beach, for a photo stop. Continue along the coast, passing many fantastic bays. Make a photo stop at the Bomba's Shack, a beach bar that has to be seen to be believed. Travel to Pusser’s Landing, a seaside village where you have ample time to browse the quaint shops and boutiques before returning to the ship via the scenic coastal road.

Tortola 4wd Adventure
This 4x4 safari travels both on and off-road for scenic island views not accessible to tour buses.

Board your open-air 4x4 vehicle and drive through Road Town. Climb a trail up to the scenic Ridge Road and follow a route that travels both on and off-road to extraordinary island vistas. Several photo stops are made along the way. Your final stop is at one of Tortola’s secluded beaches. Enjoy a refreshing beverage and ample time to wash off the trail dust with a swim. Or simply relax on the white-sand beach before returning to the ship.
