Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas. St. Thomas is known as a vacation idyll today, but its history is not so peaceful. In the 18th century, the island was at the center of a bustling pirate culture, as swashbuckling pirates such as Blackbeard and Drake traded stolen wares in the port of Charlotte Amalie.
Sample Shore Excursions:
- St. John Eco Hike - After a brief boat ride, disembark in the charming town of Cruz Bay in St. John and proceed to the Lind Point Trail, which takes you 250 feet up to the Lind Point Overlook with astounding views of surrounding islands. Continue to magnificent Honeymoon Beach for swimming, sunbathing or relaxing before touring the grounds of the world famous Caneel Bay Resort.
- Kayak, Hike and Snorkel of Cas Cay - Gather the family for a truly unique kayak, hike and snorkel experience at the St. Thomas Mangrove Wildlife Refuge and Marine Sanctuary. After a short transfer by van, you'll be given brief instructions and fitted with a life jacket, before boarding your two-person kayak for kayak, hiking and snorkeling. Three tours in one!
- Atlantis Submarine - Explore the tropical underwater world from the Atlantis XV. After a 20-minute ferry ride to the dive site at Turtle Cove, you board the real submarine where your pilot and co-pilot point out colorful sponges, corals and whimsical tropical fish as the sub descends to a depth of 80 feet. Marvel at the abundant varieties of sea life and perhaps encounter a shark or two! Don't be surprised if you see stingrays, moray eels and turtles.
Philipsburg, St. Maarten. As the Spanish closed their colonial fort on St. Maarten in 1648, a few Dutch and French sailors hid on the island and decided to share it. Soon thereafter, the Netherlands and France signed a formal agreement to split St. Maarten in half, as it is today. Philipsburg displays its Dutch heritage in its architecture and landscaping. The island offers endless stretches of beach and great shopping.
Sample Shore Excursions:
- 4 x 4 St. Maarten Safari - Get away from the crowds and share a 4x4 experience on trails and island roads. A stop off at Mullet Bay Beach will allow you to enjoy a swim. You will have one hour to explore the shops, markets and restaurants in Marigot before proceeding to Orient Beach.
- Loterie Farm Treetop Adventure Tour - It's up, up and away! The traverse adventure course consists of a sequence of zip-lines, rope swings and ‘bridges' suspended from platforms mounted in the trees.
- Butterfly Farm & Beach - At the Butterfly Farm, you will see hundreds of rare and exotic butterflies fluttering freely. The guide will identify different species, point out courtship and mating displays and tell butterfly facts and stories. Then continue your tour to Boo-Boo-Jam on Orient Beach, a 5 to 10 minute drive away. The beach is reputed as much for its beauty and setting as it is for being the island's foremost nude beach. Wear a swimsuit and bring a towel and adequate sun protection.
When you're in San Juan, don't miss the opportunity to witness the pinnacle of natural beauty by exploring Puerto Rico's El Yunque Rain Forest. It features more than 240 species of trees, hundreds of miniature orchids, and what was once believed to be the Fountain of Youth.
Sample Shore Excursions:
- Carabali Rainforest Horseback Riding - Guides will teach you the safety points and basics of horseback riding and then lead you down the foothills of El Yunque Rain Forest. You will have an opportunity to swim as well.
- Snuba in Puerto Rico - Snuba is a shallow water diving system that allows you to dive with no certification or prior experience. It allows you to experience the joy of breathing underwater. Snuba will take you to depths of 20 feet or less. The equipment floats on a raft at the surface and is monitored by our staff. You also have the option to Power Snorkel. Power Snorkeling is the same as snorkeling but instead of a snorkel you breathe through a regulator.
- Carabali Fourtracks ATV - Riders are given a 10 minute introduction on how to ride and operate a four track, including safety instructions. The real adventure begins as riders follow guides along outlined tracks through farmland into the rainforest. Individual riders will take it all at their own speed and within their own capabilities. One passenger per vehicle.
