Oranjestad, Aruba. Starting with the arrival of explorer Alonzo de Ojeda in 1499, Spain claimed Aruba but did little to cultivate it, deciding the island lacked attractive resources. After a long war with the Netherlands, Spain relinquished Aruba to the Dutch in 1642. Dutch and indigenous cultures have combined to give Aruba its unique atmosphere, which today's visitors can enjoy along with beautiful beaches, excellent snorkeling and exciting nightlife.

Adventurous explorers can enjoy Aruba's countryside from the seat of a sport utility vehicle. After a short transfer, you'll arrive at headquarters, where you'll be assigned to a four-passenger standard transmission vehicle. (Driving responsibilities can be rotated.) You'll then head out in caravan style toward the northern part of the island and the California Lighthouse. From there it's off through the cunucu (countryside), with stops at the Alto Vista Chapel, Gold Mill Ruins, the Natural Bridge and other scenic sights. After the off-road portion of the tour, board a ferry to De Palm Island for lunch, swimming and snorkeling. At the conclusion of your tour, you'll return to headquarters for a return transfer back to the ship. Safari tour guide in the lead vehicle, informative stops, an island road map, refreshments, buffet lunch, unlimited non-alcoholic beverages and snorkeling equipment are included.

By air-conditioned motor coach, drive through the schooner harbor of Oranjestad, Aruba's capital city. Along the way are outdoor markets displaying tropical fruits, local arts and crafts and Dutch Colonial buildings typifying the early days of Aruba.
You'll pass the Gold Mill Ruins, where gold was discovered in 1824. At Cashero and Boca Mahos, view the famous Watapana (divi-divi) trees shaped by the trade winds. Then travel along the rugged windward side of the island to the Natural Bridge, Aruba's most famous tourist attraction. Wind and sea have sculpted the bridge, demonstrating the powerful forces of nature.
Turning inland, you'll drive to the Casibari Rock to view these mysterious formations. The final stop on your tour is Aruba's famous Aloe Factory where you will learn firsthand how Aloe is grown and processed. On the way back to the ship you'll travel along Aruba's hotel strip.

Explore the underwater world of Aruba in a semi-submersible, a unique air-conditioned vessel that does not submerge; you descend into the hull of the boat and sit five feet below the surface of the water. You will be taken by bus to a transfer boat for a quick ride out to the Seaworld Explorer.
Listen to a knowledgeable narrator on the ride to Arashi Reef, where you will see beautiful coral formations and hundreds of tropical fish. From there, you will proceed to the wreck of the Antilla, a German freighter destroyed in World War II. After returning to shore via transfer boat, you will re-board buses for the return to the pier.

For a fun-filled evening, ride in a wacky, one-of-a-kind 1957 Paranda bus, hand painted and cooled by trade winds, for a look at Aruba after dark. The party begins with colorful local music accompanying the maracas you're shaking on the way to a sunset champagne toast on the beach. Then you'll continue on to a restaurant for dinner under the stars. After dinner, you'll be taken to three popular Aruban "watering holes " to experience the island as a native. Your first drink at each stop is included, additional beverages can be purchased. Dress is Kunuku Kasual. Don't forget your camera and a strong wrist to shake your maracas into a memorable evening.
