Cruises to Willemstad, Curacao
with Royal Caribbean

Willemstad, Curacao. Curaçao is the largest of six islands that comprise the Netherlands Antilles. It gained autonomy from the Netherlands in 1954, but the Dutch influence is still very visible in Willemstad's architecture and culture. With the growth of the oil industry in Curaçao in the early 20th century, workers and their families came to the island from more than 50 countries, providing for a varied and vibrant population.

Sample Shore Excursions

Animal Encounter Scuba Adventure Tour

A natural tidal pool at the edge of a beautiful coral reef is home to sharks, turtles and stingrays. Here divers can have the unforgettable experience of hand-feeding these animals. The sharks and turtles are behind fencing with five big plexiglass windows with feeding holes. The animals can be seen, fed and filmed close up. The stingrays and other fish swim among the divers. The option of having pictures or a video made is available and may be purchased at the end of the dive. In addition to your 30 to 40 minute dive, you will have time to explore the Seaquarium before returning to the ship. This is available to non-certified divers as it operates in only 12 feet of water. A complete PADI-approved familiarization is conducted on scuba equipment and safety prior to the dive. Medical restrictions apply and the minimum age is 12 years. See the Shore Excursion Desk for details. This tour is only offered on the Adventure of the Seas.

Curacao Highlights Tour Tour

Traveling from the pier through the Otrabanda section of Willemstad, you will stop at Chobolobo, an old colonial mansion where the original Curacao liqueur is still distilled today in 100-year-old bins. After enjoying a sample of this liqueur, the tour continues to Brievangat, a beautiful old country house known for its architecture and antique furniture. Before departing, you may browse through the souvenir shop. The next stop is the Curacao Seaquarium, one of the most unique aquariums in the world because of its ability to breed sea creatures in their own environment. The Seaquarium uses trade winds to channel plankton to its more than 46 pools and tanks containing hundreds of species of fish indigenous to these waters. You will have time to wander around the various tanks and pools to admire the fascinating beauty of the underwater world before returning to the ship.

Willemstad Trolley Train Tour

By taxi you will cross Queen Juliana Suspension Bridge to board the Willemstad Trolley Train. Enjoy a guided tour of this quaint city with its distinctive Dutch architecture. Starting in Punda, the train will pass Pietermaai Cathedral. Then continue past many interesting sights, including the Mikve Israel Emmanuel Synagogue, the oldest synagogue in the Western Hemisphere, the Queen Wilhelmina Park and the Waterfort Arches. Finally, you'll stop and visit Fort Amsterdam, built in 1635 to guard the vital entrance to the harbor from enemy ships. After the tour you can remain in town independently, or return directly to the ship.

Ostrich Encounter Tour

Combine a visit to Curaçao’s Ostrich Farm and the Curaçao Herb Garden for unforgettable encounters at two unique Curaçao sites. Departing by bus, you’ll drive northeast through the rugged local countryside en route to the Ostrich Farm. Your guide will introduce you to the hundred-plus ostriches on the farm. See firsthand how the ostrich develops from an egg to become the largest bird in the world. You can hold the gigantic eggs and maybe even watch a baby chick hatching. Next stop is the Curaçao Herb Garden for a refreshing herbal drink. Then tour the gardens and see rare and exotic plant species, many of which are used in today’s medicine and beauty creams. Every plant has a story – some humorous, some mystical – that your guide will be happy to recount. Then re-board the buses for the return ride to the ship.
