Situated at the edge of the Adriatic Sea in the very south of Croatia, Dubrovnik is rich in history and natural beauty. With bays, beaches, steep cliffs and dense woodland areas, Dubrovnik's landscape is unexpected. Although severely damaged in the attack by the Serbs and Montenegrins in the fall of 1991, Dubrovnik's impressive medieval architecture and its beautiful Mediterranean landscape still remain.
- The One Thing You Don't Want to Miss
The old city of Dubrovnik and the walls that surround it have been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Portions of the wall date back to the 13th century. The ramparts are intact and encircle the old city with a circumference of more than 1.5 miles. Don't miss the chance to take a walking tour along its length for a spectacular view of the city it surrounds.
- Other Fun Things to Do
Drive along the coastline to one of the finest botanical gardens in Croatia, the Arboretum.
Spend the day touring the city's rich religious and cultural history. Visit the large Onofrio Fountain, the Franciscan Monastery, and the Rectors' Palace.
Visit Lopud Island, the home of many great sailors and sea captains throughout history. With its mild climate, subtropical vegetation, charming footpaths, beautiful scenery, and sandy beaches, it is the perfect spot to relax.
Visit the 15th-century Rectors' Palace that was once the seat of Dubrovnik's Republic government. The elected Rector was not permitted to leave this building during his one-month term without permission from the Senate. Today, the palace is a museum with furnished rooms, Baroque paintings, and historical exhibits that will give you a taste of how the ruling class and the aristocracy used to live in Dubrovnik.
Take a side trip to the seaside resort of Cavtat. The original town grew up around the ruins of an ancient settlement by the Greeks from Epidaurus. Over the years, Cavtat has become a popular destination for yachting and sailing enthusiasts.

The charm, local cuisine and panoramic scenery will make this outing a most memorable and enjoyable one. "Those who seek paradise on earth," George Bernard Shaw once wrote, "should come to Dubrovnik." Today, he might add that Dubrovnik is the place for all those who wish to renew themselves and their faith in human nature.
Your coach will leave you at the Pile Square where the walking tour begins. The Old Town is accessed through the Pile Gate and there you will find yourself at the beginning of the main street - the Stradun. Along the way, you will visit the Dominican Monastery with its finest collection of Renaissance paintings in Dubrovnik. Among many local and Italian masters the highlight is a painting by Tizian. You will also visit the 15th century Rector's Palace that used to be the seat of Dubrovnik Republic government (abolished by Napoleon in 1808). Today, it gives a taste of how the ruling class and the aristocracy used to live. After the guided tour you will have some free time for exploring the town on your own before our coach continues towards the famous Konavoski Dvori Restaurant. The drive will take you along the Zupa Coastline and through the small villages of the Konavle Valley. The restaurant is located in an old mill adjacent to the cascading waters of the Ljuta River. Enjoy a traditional Croatian lunch of local delicacies. After lunch, continue your drive to the small seaside resort of Cavtat. Once a prosperous Greek and Roman colony, today, Cavtat is a pleasant town that most visitors find enchanting. Over the years Cavtat has been a favorite destination for sailors and yacht enthusiasts. There you will have time for a walk along the seafront promenade or a coffee in one of many cafés located along the coast before returning to Dubrovnik.
Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 0.5 mile over uneven and cobblestone surfaces with extended periods of standing and 10 - 20 steps into the monastery. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Time permitting; you will have approximately 1 hour of leisure in the old city.

Your tour will give you the opportunity to see where the famous Croatian oysters come from. You will start with a pleasant bus ride along the beautiful Adriatic coastline. Your first stop will be made in the small, charming village of Orasac. In Orasac you will have the opportunity to take part in the production of olive oil in the old fashioned way. The mill is even powered by a horse. This trip through time will certainly delight you. Here you will also have the opportunity to taste some home made cheese, smoked ham and wine in the setting of a very old house which has not changed much through the ages.
After your visit to the village of Orasac Village you will continue towards the small town of Ston which is the "oyster capital" of Croatia. This little town is often called a smaller copy of Dubrovnik. Especially interesting are the magnificent walls surrounding the town. They are 3 miles long and the construction started in 1317. They were finished in the 16th century. It is one of the longest defensive walls in the world. Interesting are also the ancient salt pans that were in use during the Dubrovnik Republic. Salt is still produced here.
After visiting Ston you will go to the small town of Mali Ston where you will have the chance to taste some more sea food - a light lunch consisting of two different risottos and sea food pasta. Your lunch will be accompanied by good local wine. After lunch in Mali Ston you will continue your trip to the small village of Ponikve where you will visit one of the best known wine cellars of this region - the cellar of the family Milos where you can enjoy the famous wines, both red and white, of the "Peljesac" peninsula. A beautiful drive along the Adriatic coast will take you back to the ship.

Depart Dubrovnik Harbor by coach towards Pile Square where your guide will lead you through the charming streets of Dubrovnik Old Town on a special sightseeing tour, still far from the main tourist routes in the Old Town. In 1991, the new permanent display of the Ethnographic Museum with some 5000 exhibits was opened in the renovated building of the RUPE (Hole) Granary. The Granary, built by the Dubrovnik government in the oldest part of town on the islet of Lave in 1590, was formerly used to store the municipal grain reserves in 15 large well containers cut in stone on the ground floor. The original appearance of the ground floor was preserved during renovation and three wells (holes), architecturally accentuated with rails, have been opened. Photographs illustrate the history of the building. The permanent exhibition illustrates the cultural heritage of the Dubrovnik region - the economic and material culture is displayed on the first floor and the spiritual (customs, traditional folk costumes, folklore, textiles and lace) on the second floor.
Another visited site is the Dubrovnik's Maritime Museum, located in St. John's Castle and has been rebuilt after the earthquake in 1979. The permanent display consists of 4000 exhibits owned by the museum, which illustrate the naval history of Dubrovnik and surrounding region. Among the exhibits are the ship models dating back to the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries as well as flags, cannons and other weapons, figureheads, nautical instruments, log books, various documents and the like. The museum holds valuable library containing many rare books and the important archival material. At the end of the tour, your guide will lead you to main street Stradun where you will have 45 minutes free time followed by transfer back to the ship.
Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 0.5 mile over even and cobblestone surfaces with extended periods of standing and over 100 steps during the course of the tour. At the conclusion of the morning tour, you may remain in Old Town for shopping and independent sightseeing or return with your guide to the ship. Should you decide to remain in town, transportation back to the ship (via the shuttle or taxi) is at your own expense.
