Royal Caribbean International Cruise Lines
Cruises to Genoa, Italy
with Royal Caribbean

For centuries, Genoa has been a major commercial seaport. Today, it is one of Italy's largest cities. Genoa is located in northwestern Italy, in the inner harbor of the Gulf of Genoa. This city was once home to Christopher Columbus and world-renowned violinist Niccolò Paganini. Within the city's medieval walls you can wander the caruggi (alleys) where the wealthy Genovese lived and guilds set up shop. The alleys are still home to specialty shops, Baroque and Romanesque churches and 500-year-old apartment buildings.
  • The One Thing You Don't Want to Miss
Take a deep breath and immerse yourself in the underwater world at the Aquarium of Genoa. This is the largest aquarium in Europe, featuring sharks, dolphins, penguins, seals, sea turtles, jellyfish, giant Japanese spidercrabs, and more. Discover new ecosystems such as the flooded forest, the mangroves, the Madagascar reef and the Moluccan Islands. Adventurers of all ages will be swept away!
  • Other Fun Things to Do
Climb 375 steps to the top of the Lanterna, a majestic lighthouse perched on the rocks in Genoa's harbor since 1543.
Admire the 16th-century Galleria di Palazzo Bianco (White Palace) and the fantastic art collection within. See Portrait of a Lady by Lucas Cranach the Elder as well as works by Bernardo Strozzi, Murillo, Caravaggio, Veronese and Jan Steen.
  • Get a Taste of Local Flavor
While in Genoa, let your taste buds experience authentic pesto, typically served with a combination of pasta, green beans and potatoes. If you're looking for a quick bite to eat, try focaccia (flatbread) stuffed with cheese and topped with vegetables, olives, onions, herbs or prosciutto. Or check out farinata; similar to a crepe made from chickpea flour and cooked in olive oil, farinata can be filled with any combination of vegetables, sauces and cheese. Other delicious temptations include gelato, crema (frozen egg custard) and granites (shaved ice with fresh fruit flavorings).

Corfu Coastal Walk - Tour CG03

Depart the pier on a short drive to Nissaki where your walking tour starts from the beach on a path along the coast that will take you from one small bay to the next, passing through some of the most picturesque coastal villages of the island: Agni, Kalami, Kouloura, Kerasia and Agios Stefanos. In some parts, the path diverts, cutting through the fields and the olive forest growing by the sea, or meets the inner roads of the villages in between. During the walk, you will enjoy views of the coast, the sea and the opposite coast of Albania (lying less than 2 miles away), the town of Agioi Saranda and the salt lake of Butrinti.

Shortly after leaving Nissaki, you will pass by the small chapel of St. Arsenius, built on the rocks next to the sea, where the famous Nobel-awarded British writer Lawrence Durrell loved to swim. At Kalami Village, you will visit the famous "White House," the residence of Lawrence Durrell. You will have time to enjoy the sea and a light lunch (Greek salad- assorted plate with various Greek specialties and red wine) at a seafront taverna in Kalami bay, and you also have the chance for swimming.

After lunch, proceed along the inner village road to the Bay of Kouloura, and its picturesque little harbor, full of fishing boats. At the end of the harbor lie the ruins of a small Venetian castle, now the private residence of an Italian millionaire, Anielli, of the FIAT Corporation. From Kouloura, the path continues alongside the coast to the white-pebbled beach of Kerasia. You will have glimpses of the fort-like residence of Lord Rothschild, built among the olive trees, right above the sea, facing the shores of Albania. Continue to the picturesque Bay of Agios Stefanos, a small fishing harbor and a popular mooring for private yachts. You will have some free time at Agios Stefanos (for coffee or refreshments - optional). Your bus will be waiting for you to return to the ship.

Note: This tour involves a strenuous 4-mile walk so you must be in good physical condition with the ability to walk uphill for extended periods of time. Comfortable, loose fitting clothing, walking or hiking shoes, a hat and plenty of sunscreen are recommended, specially from June to November. Bottled water and a lunch snack will be provided.

Paleokastritsa, Lakones & Wine - Tour CG08

This tour takes you through some of Corfu's most enchanting landmarks, places of unique natural beauty and colorful villages. Starting with a 25-minute drive through the dense Corfiot countryside which is filled with olive groves, pine, cypress, lemon and orange trees, you cross by coach the valley covering most of the island's interior, before arriving at the bay of Paleokastrisa, known as the "Capri of Greece," one of the most beautiful spots on the island. In Paleokastritsa, you will have time for independent exploration.

From Paleokastritsa, you will ascend by coach to the traditional old village of Lakones, built high on the mountainside, offering a panoramic vista of Paleokastritsa. A short photo stop offers the chance to take some breathtaking pictures. Driving onwards, you will reach the traditional village of Makrades where at a local taverna "Colombos," you will enjoy a traditional 'meze' (local Greek snack) and taste the local wine or some famous Greek ouzo (aniseed-like drink). The taverna's interior is decorated with traditional 18th and 19th century agricultural tools and an intriguing old olive press, which offer you a glimpse into the old ways of living and working.

The tour continues over the western section of the Pantokrator mountain range - the highest on the island; during most of the drive you can enjoy views all around the island, as your coach returns you to your ship.

Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 1 mile over varying terrain, inclines and 20 - 30 steps. Comfortable walking shoes, a hat and plenty of sunscreen are recommended, specially from June to September.

Hidden Villages of Kerkyra by 4WD Vehicle - Tour CG07

Touring by 4 wheel drive vehicle allows you to explore some of the most traditional old villages on the island, not often visited by the tourist, as well as some of the most beautiful parts of the Corfiot countryside. Partly on asphalt and partly off-road this tour explores the northwestern parts of the mountainous terrain of Mount Pantokrator, know as the Land of the Gods, because of the natural beauty of the area and views over the plains of the island. Starting from the port, you will be assigned a four-passenger vehicle before starting out "caravan style" across the island. (Driving responsibility will be rotated) You will drive along the main coastal road leading to the north, passing by many resorts, quaint villages, and the cool shade of the ageless olive groves. Crossing through the village of Ano Korakiana - one of the oldest, largest and most beautiful Corfiot villages - you take the narrow winding road with the 27 turns "zigzag" leading up the slopes of Pantokrator Mountain known as "Little Switzerland." There in the picturesque village of Sokraki, you can stretch your legs and enjoy the panoramic vista on top of the mountain. You will be treated to a heartening "meze" (Greek snack) with a glass of local ouzo or wine at the kafeneion (local coffee shop) situated at the village square. Then it's off-road driving, making your way along a mountain ridge to the village of Troumbetta, on the main pass to the northern part of the island. Driving along the narrow country road amidst dense forests of fern, pine and cypress trees and the usual ageless olive groves, you arrive at the beach of "Ag. Giorgis Pagi," a spectacular 4 km stretch of sand where you will have time to enjoy the beach and have a light lunch of local specialties at a typical beachfront village taverna. After lunch, you will return back to the port in Corfu Town.

Note: Minimum age for drivers is 21 and must show a valid driver's license. Guests will switch driving positions during the course of the tour to allow all participants the opportunity to drive. Vehicles hold a maximum of 4 passengersn and are manual gearing (not automatic). Group will follow in caravan formation with the lead guide/vehicle in the front and control vehicle at the end. All vehicles must remain with the group at all times. Tour participation is extremely limited. Itinerary is subject to change depending on weather and road conditions.
