This tour is designed for guests who would like a limited guided tour with free time to explore Rome at leisure. The tour begins with a drive through the Etruscan countryside. Once in Rome, you will be dropped off at a designated point to explore or shop on your own and have fun in the Eternal City. The guide will advise you at what time to meet again to continue the tour.
Visit one of the highlights of Vatican City; St. Peter's Basilica, one of Christendom's most significant churches. Construction began in 1452 on the site where St. Peter was buried. During the next 200 years, such famous masters as Bramante, Michelangelo, Raphael and Bernini worked on its design and created an unparalleled masterpiece. Inside view Michelangelo's "Pieta" and the 85-foot-high Bernini Pulpit.
At St. Peter's In Chains Cathedral, you can admire one of the many masterpieces created by Michelangelo, the famous statue of Moses. This majestic bearded figure is depicted holding the tablets of the Ten Commandments. Continue by walking to the Roman Colosseum, one of the most important monuments of ancient Rome. A masterpiece of classical architecture, the Colosseum is an enormous amphitheater where gladiators, Christians and wild beasts once battled to the death in front of 50,000 spectators. There, you'll have time for photographs of its exterior. Re-board the bus for the drive back to the ship. Please note that lunch is at the guest's own expense.
Note: An escort will be on the coach during the trip to/from Rome and a local guide will be met once in Rome for the half day guided portion of the tour. Tour includes approximately 2.5 hours of independent exploration. Guests must be able to walk approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) over even and cobblestone surfaces with some steps. To enter both the Basilica and Cathedral, ladies must cover their shoulders; no shorts are allowed and attire should be conservative. Should St. Peter's Basilica have a special event or mass service, guides will give an outside explanation only and guests will the enter on their own. Should your guide determine that the queue at the St. Peter's Basilica security check point is longer than a 45 minute wait, they will forego the interior visit of the Basilica and provide you with a full explanation and description while outside. Depending upon the number of people in the Basilica, it may be closed for security reasons. These safety precautions are beyond the control of the local tour operator or Royal Caribbean. You will be provided more time during your shopping of free period to compensate for not entering the Basilica. The order of the tour may be reversed or altered depending on traffic or local conditions. The shopping hours and closure dates should be reviewed in the introduction section of Civitavecchia.

This full day excursion is a perfect tour for those who would like to explore the flavors and history of Etruscan Italy. Pre-dating the Roman Empire, the Tuscia region has been the cradle of the Etruscan civilization and is evident in hilltop Tuscania, with its roots dating from the 9th century B.C., contrasting with the Renaissance gardens, fountains, pavilions and maze of Villa Lante.
Leaving the port area and heading north from Civitavecchia, you will view the warm colors of the Etruscan countryside as you make your way to Bagnaia. You will appreciate a visit to the Renaissance gardens of Villa Lante. To create these beautiful gardens, one of the greatest architects of the time, Vignola, was called upon. Fountains, pavilions and a box-tree maze were all combined to create a peaceful yet playful atmosphere. Walk through these inspirational and often whimsical gardens, taking time to enjoy the serenity and beauty of the setting. You will proceed to the lake of Bolsena where you will stop for views of the lake and the islands Bisentina and Martana. Lunch with wine will be served in a restaurant located alongside the lake of Bolsena.
Standing at the top of a rocky hill overlooking the Maremma region, Tuscania's Etruscan and Renaissance buildings have been beautifully restored and still reflect the Etruscan history. Walk with your guide through the narrow cobblestone lanes of this charming village and take in the views of the surrounding valleys.
