Blue Grotto Boat Trip & Marsaxlokk - VT14

    Depart quayside and travel through various typical Maltese villages towards the south side of the island where you will reach your destination, the Blue Grotto. Begin with taking in the views of the impressive natural rock structures of Wied iz Zurrieq. Time for photos is given. Proceed down the hill towards the departure point to begin your boat trip to the impressive caves and lovely colorful coral formation under the clear blue sea. After the boat trip, time at leisure is provided before proceeding by coach to the quaint Marsaxlokk fishing village where you will free time for photos, shopping and browsing around the busy market place. You will find many photos opportunities of the lovely and colorful Maltese fishing boats. Return to the ship by coach for re-embarkation.

    Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 600 yards over very uneven surfaces at the cliffs and numerous steps to reach the boat boarding area. The exact itinerary and cave viewing opportunities are dependent upon wind and weather conditions on the day of the excursion. Time permitting; guests will have approximately 45 minutes for shopping and browsing in Marsaxlokk. Please note the flea market generally closes at 4:00pm. The amount of walking while in Marsaxlokk is at the guests’ discretion. The drive to/from the port area is approximately 30 - 45 minutes, dependent upon traffic conditions.


Grand Malta Highlights - VT18

    Depart quayside en route to Valletta - Malta's capital city, to visit on foot, the Upper Barracca Gardens for a panoramic view of Malta's natural harbors and the historic cities of Senglea, Cospicua, and Vittoriosa. Proceed to St. John's Cathedral - the Conventual Church of the Knights of Malta, viewing also the masterpiece - Caravaggio's Beheading of St. John. You will then walk to the Magisterial Palace - formerly the residence of the Grand Masters of the Order to see the Tapestry Chamber and the State Room. Reboard your coach from outside of Valletta's main gate and drive to Tarxien to visit the Three Neolithic Temples, which are unique in this part of the world. Lunch will be served at a local resort before proceeding to Malta's Old Capital, Mdina, The Silent City, to visit, on foot, the Old Cathedral and Ramparts dating back to the 9th century. Continue your drive towards the Handicrafts Village to watch local artisans working their crafts before free time is given for shopping and browsing. Return quayside and your waiting vessel.

    Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 1 mile over even and cobblestone surfaces in Valletta. Guests will have to navigate approximately 40 steps at the Cathedral and Palace. Mdina requires approximately 1 mile of walking over cobblestone streets. No vehicles are allowed in Mdina; therefore, this is a guided walking tour. Respectful attire that covers shoulders and knees should be worn in order to enter the Cathedral. Should the Magisterial Palace be closed due to official functions, the Palace Armory or National Museum of Archaeology will be substituted. Occasionally, the Cathedrals may be closed due to religious functions and are to be reconfirmed closer to the date of the call. Tour order may vary in order to avoid congestion at the venues.


Malta Island Panoramic Drive - VT06

    You will depart quayside for Vittoriosa, one of the three historic cities where you will see the exterior of the Church of St Laurence which replaced the tower used as an observation post by Grand Master La Valletta during the siege of 1565. Proceed to Marsaxlokk, Malta's largest fishing village where you will have free time to explore this picturesque village before embarking the coach again for a drive through the tiny villages en route to the Blue Grotto at Wied iz-Zurrieq. You will view the Grotto from above before proceeding once more with the coach, driving through Girgenti, which houses the summer residence of the Prime Minister, the Dingli Cliffs, and finally the Buskett Gardens. At Dingli Cliffs, you will admire the view, from Malta's highest point. From the cliffs, you will drive through Rabat around the perimeter of Mdina, Malta's old capital city. Conclude your drive through Mosta, known for its famous dome that is considered the third largest unsupported dome in Europe, before returning to the pier and your vessel.

    Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 300 yards over even surfaces and 2 - 3 steps to board the coach. The amount of walking during the free time is at the discretion of the guests.


Mdina & Historic Valletta - VT01

    This excursion allows you to tour the noble city of Mdina and explore the walled city of Valletta while glimpsing their diverse and historical pasts. You'll leave the harbor-front area before proceeding to Mdina where your coach will pass through the island's scenic landscapes and Arabic architecture.

    You'll be escorted on foot through Mdina, Malta's "Silent City." Meaning "walled city" in Arabic, this former capital has played a key role in the island's history for more than 1,500 years. Few sights on Malta are as impressive as Mdina, and as one of the few remaining fortified medieval cities in the Mediterranean, it has special status. Marvel at the impressive Palazzi and churches as you stroll to the bastions to admire the stunning view of the surrounding countryside. Visit the 9th century Old Cathedral to view its collection of paintings and woodcarvings.

    Rejoin your coach for the drive back to Valletta. You'll proceed on foot with your guide to visit the main sites within the city. You'll stop at Valletta's Upper Barracca Gardens for a panoramic view of the island's natural harbor. From this vantage point, you'll also see the fortified cities of Senglea, Cospicua and Vittoriosa.

    A visit is made to St. John's Co-Cathedral, which contains Malta's finest art treasures and impresses with its striking interior. The church was built and paid for by French Grand Master de la Cassiere and was consecrated on February 20, 1578. A visit to the Oratory of the Cathedral, where Caravaggio's intensely moving picture "The Beheading of St. John" is found, is also included. Today, the cathedral is the final resting-place of many of the Knights, their headstones lining the cathedral floor. At the Magisterial Palace, the former residence of the Grand Masters of the Order, you'll tour the State Rooms, displaying period furnishings, artwork, and the Tapestry Chamber.

Mdina, Mosta & Handicrafts Village - VT02

    This excursion visits the birthplace of modern Malta and allows you to shop for locally produced handicrafts. You'll pass through the island's scenic landscapes and Arabic architecture. You'll visit Mdina, Malta's "Silent City" and center of development, dating back almost 3,000 years. You'll walk the walled city, which affords excellent views from its ramparts, and visit the 9th-century Old Cathedral to view its collection of paintings and woodcarvings. Returning to your coach, you'll proceed to Ta' Qali Handicrafts Village where you'll make a brief stop at a glass blowing factory for a demonstration and some insight into this ancient art, as local artisans practice their craft. A complimentary soft beverage is offered while at the glass factory. You'll have approximately 45 minutes for shopping among the many ceramic, glass, and filigree jewelry shops. You can also watch the local artisans at work producing the typical Maltese wares that have made this region famous.

    Continuing to Mosta, you will tour the well-preserved interior of the domed Cathedral that is considered to be the third largest in Europe. Your guide will relay its history and tell you about the miracle that saved the structure from destruction during World War II.

    Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 1 mile over cobblestone streets through Mdina, with 5 - 10 steps. Walking at the Handicrafts Village is at your discretion over mostly even surfaces. Respectful attire that covers the shoulders and knees should be worn in the Cathedral. Occasionally the Cathedral and the Mosta Dome may be closed due to religious functions and are to be reconfirmed nearer the date


Harbor Cruise & Shopping - VT13

    Your coach departs quayside en route for Sliema where you will board a boat to witness Malta's living past by cruising around the two natural harbors surrounding Valletta - Marsamxett Harbor and the Grand Harbor. The provided commentary will unfold the history of the three cities connected with the two great Sieges of 1565 and 1942, as well as the other places of interest including the historic forts, battlements, and creeks. On completion of harbor cruise, you will be given some free time before reboarding your coach for a panoramic return drive to the ship.

    Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 100 yards over even surfaces with 10 steps to enter/exit the boat for the harbor cruise. Guests should use caution while entering/exiting the boat. The amount of walking involved during the free time is at the guests' discretion. Time permitting; guests will be given approximately 45 minutes for shopping and browsing in Sliema.


Three Cities & Harbor Cruise - VT03

    Depart quayside bound for Marsaxlokk, Malta's largest fishing village where you will have free time (approximately 30 minutes) to explore this picturesque village, before proceeding with your drive to the Three Cities. Drive to Senglea, where you will see the historic city with the bastions overlooking the Grand Harbor. Embark your coach and drive via Cospicua to Vittoriosa for an exterior view of the many buildings including the Auberges of the Knights - the Hospital, the Armoury, the Treasury, various palaces, Fort St. Angelo and St. Lawrence Church. At the Vittoriosa quay, you will board the vessel for a boat trip around the Valletta Harbor. On termination of the harbor cruise, vessel will debark guests directy at Pinto Wharf.

    Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 0.5 mile over cobblestone and uneven streets with 40 - 55 steps. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Due to berthing restrictions, the harbor cruise might start from Sliema Ferries. The harbor cruise is weather dependent and may be cancelled if local conditions deem necessary.


4 x 4 Malta Adventure - Half Day - VT11

    Touring by four-wheel drive vehicle allows you to explore areas of Malta, not often visited by tourists, as well as some of the most beautiful parts of the Maltese countryside.

    Join this 4X4 adventure where your safari leader driver will point out various locations and landscapes during the drive. This excursion offers a unique opportunity to see the varying scenery from a completely different perspective. All vehicles are brought to Pinto Wharf from where you will depart and proceed to the northern part of Malta Continue on Mellieha, drive past the Red Tower towards Anchor Bay and Golden Sands for a possible swimming stop. Proceed with a drive to Mgarr and Fomm ir-Rih with a photo stop at the Dingli Cliffs. Drive towards Ghar Lapsi and the Blue Grotto. You will return to the port via Marsaxlokk, time permitting.

    Note: This excursion involves steep ascents and descents. Itinerary is subject to change depending on weather, terrain and road conditions. Final selection will be advised by the driver. No guide is inluded on this tour. Each vehicle accommodates 6 passengers including the driver. Group will follow in caravan formation with the lead guide/vehicle in the front. All vehicles must remain together with the group. Tour participation is extremely limited. Visibility from all scenic outlooks is dependent upon the weather and therefore cannot be guaranteed. This excursion is not recommended for guests who have back or hip problems, are pregnant, or suffer from motion sickness or vertigo. The vehicles are not air-conditioned. Participants will be required to sign waivers in order to participate on this excursion. Comfortable clothing and walking shoes, sunglasses, hat and a towel from the vessel are recommended. Participants should wear their swimsuit beneath their clothing if they plan on swimming. There are no changing facilities at the beach visited during this excursion.
