Journey to Haleakala Crater, the highest point on the island of Maui. At 10,023 feet above sea level, this crater could accommodate Manhattan Island with room to spare, while stacking the Empire State Building four times without reaching the top! Departing from the ship, your guided drive up the mountain will take you through Maui's diverse scenery. After reaching Haleakala National Park, take in the panoramic views from the summit. Last erupting in 1790, the crater of this dormant volcano measures 7.5 miles long, 2.5 miles wide and 21 miles around. Appreciate firsthand the unique qualities of this 3,000 foot deep crater with its mix of volcanic rock and plant life. Lunch is provided.
The air may be cool at 10,000 feet so please bring a sweater and wear comfortable walking shoes. Due to climatic changes, no guarantee is given for the views available at any given time.
Your sightseeing begins with a guided drive to Iao Valley State Park. One of the highlights of the park is the Iao Needle, a 2,250-foot cinder cone pinnacle that dominates the surrounding terrain. Your sightseeing continues with a visit to Maui Tropical Plantation. A narrated tram tour of the Plantation's agricultural villages, sugarcane fields, macadamia nut orchards, and flower gardens is included. There will be time for browsing in the Made-on-Maui Marketplace before returning to the ship.
After a drive to the Kahului Heliport, climb aboard a helicopter and explore the contrasts of East Maui. Your flight includes the most requested points of interest: Haleakala Crater, Oheo Gulch (often mistakenly referred to as Seven Pools), Hana Town, Hana rain forest and the rugged shoreline of Northeast Maui. Your tour includes round-trip transfers from the ship.
Join a guided trek across the Ahihi Kinau Lava Field and take a refreshing swim and snorkel in the "fishbowl. " Following a drive from the pier, hike approximately one mile over Maui's youngest lava flow within the largest Natural Area Reserve on the island before you discover a pristine cove nicknamed "fishbowl. " Here you can join in a refreshing swim and snorkel. This is an ideal location for seeing Maui's underwater sea life and gaining an appreciation for the diversity of the Hawaiian Islands.
