The Fiji archipelago consists of tiny coral atolls and mountainous forest-clad islands of volcanic origin, and is famed for its aquamarine waters and white sand beaches. Lautoka, meaning “spear-hit” or “hit to win,” was named that as a result of an argument between two chiefs. It is sited in the western side of the largest island in Fiji. The city is surrounded with the blue Pacific Ocean on the western side and green gold sugar cane and pine trees on the other sides.

Fijian Village and Orchid Garden
Tour Code: LAU-2
Duration: Half-Day (Approximately 4 hours)
Explore Fiji's splendid beauty, culture and traditions during this scenic and memorable orientation tour of the island.
Depart the pier for the scenic drive through Lautoka City, then on to Viseisei Village; the original landing site of the first Fijians that emigrated from Tanganika, Africa. Upon arrival, the Viseisei villagers will extend you a warm welcome and invite you to participate in a kava ceremony. The drinking of kava, Fiji's national drink, is one of the most common ceremonial and social customs in the islands. Afterward, the villagers will regale you with a traditional local song and dance performance, or meke.
Next, a visit will be made to the Garden of the Sleeping Giant. Nestled in a highland valley at the base of a mountain in the Sabeto Range, the garden was founded in 1977 by the late American actor Raymond Burr to house his collection of rare orchids. Today, it boasts one of the world's largest orchid collections and features over 2,000 varieties. During your guided tour, you will see hundreds of beautiful blooms in all shapes and colors. Your guide will also explain the names and characteristics of the abundant native flora and fauna.
A brief stop will then be made at the Nadi Market, where you will have the opportunity to browse for souvenirs, jewelry, wood carvings, cloth and traditional handicrafts, before a drive through Lautoka's sugar cane plantations and commercial and residential areas before returning to the pier.
Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking, including inclines and many steps to climb at the gardens. This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilize a wheelchair. Village visits will not take place on Sundays and local religious holidays.
