Take a walk in the footsteps of Paul Gauguin and explore the museum that bears his name during this scenic tour of Tahiti.
Departing Papeete, your tour will take you along the West Coast of the island of Tahiti. In the residential district of Punaauia, a visit is made to the most interesting Museum of Tahiti and her Islands located on La Pointe des Pecheurs (Fishermen's Point). This museum displays not only a number of archeological finds, but you will also be able to get an impression of the island's geology, its flora and fauna, and learn about the culture and customs in ancient and modern Tahiti.
Continue your drive to the Paul Gauguin Museum, set in a spacious garden. Gauguin lived in Polynesia from June 1891 to August 1893 and again from August 1895 to May 1903, the time of his death in the Marquesas Islands.
The museum features a few original belongings of Paul Gauguin and some works (although no major work from the Master), an interesting retrospective of his life in the islands told through documents, letters, writings and his household objects. There is a display of Gauguin's works in miniature showing the whereabouts of all his aintings.
The last stop is as the marae of Arahurahu situated in a pretty valley. There is a short walk to reach this sacred site. Following your Tahitian tour, you will re-board your coach for the return drive to the pier.
