Da Nang, known as Tourane by the French, succeeded Hoi An as the most important port in central Vietnam during the 19th century. Today, Da Nang's distance from other power centers, its natural endowments, (the port and proximity to Laos and Thailand), and its high degree of provincial autonomy allows for considerable local initiative. Among the Da Nang area sites of interest to visitors are the Marble Mountains, China Beach, the ancient port town of Hoi An and the imperial city of Hue.

- Shore Excursion: ANCIENT HOI AN
This tour combines a panoramic drive through Da Nang with a leisurely exploration of Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Departing the port, pass through the city center past colonial-style buildings, before reaching the country road that continues on to China Beach and Hoi An.
The picturesque town of Hoi An has remained unchanged for centuries. Initially an important trading port from the 15th to the late 19th century, Hoi An boasts some of Vietnam's most historic architecture. Located on the banks of the Thu Bon River, the town is a mixture of temples, pagodas, ancient houses, community halls, bridges and tombs, still looking as they did when built.
Enjoy a guided walking tour of this charming town, including a visit to the Hoi An Museum, displaying objects from the boom time when Hoi An was a trade port for European merchants from Portugal, Spain and France. The walking tour continues to the extravagantly decorated Phuc Kien Temple, built in honor of Thien Hau, Goddess of the Sea, and the ancient Japanese Bridge, built in 1593 to connect the Japanese and Chinese communities of the town. The final stop is at one of the ancient houses of Hoi An, before your return drive back to the port.
