Sample Shore Excursions:
- Athens Acropolis Tour Add-On
for Airport or Hotel Transfers
Tour ATH 021
Approximately 3.5 hours
Milton called Athens "the eye of Greece,
mother of arts and eloquence." The ancient
remains of Athens today constitute one of
the brightest jewels of the Mediterranean.
It will quickly become evident that half
the population of Greece lives in Athens,
and despite this, the Ancient City and the
Acropolis have been kept fairly intact. Perhaps
the most famous temple of the Ancient City
is the Parthenon, dedicated to the patron Goddess of Athens, Athena. Walking up
a winding path towards the Acropolis you
will pass through the Propylaea and see the
Erechtheum temple and the Porch of the
Caryatids in the distance. Reinforced by
the hand of man, the natural fortress of the
Acropolis stands 230 feet above the city. You
cannot help but be in awe of the view below.
On a scenic drive through the city, you will
pass Adrian’s Arch, the statue of Lord Byron,
and the Temple of Olympian Zeus, which
took 700 years to complete. Continuing on
towards Constitution Square, you will pass
the former Royal Palace where the Evzones,
members of the National Guard, keep watch
in their traditional costume over the Tomb of
the Unknown Warrior. You will see the allmarble
Olympic Stadium built for the modern
Olympic Games in 1896. You will pass the
National Gardens, drive along University
Street and see its neoclassical buildings, some
of which are the Academy, the University and
the Library.

Sample Shore Excursions:
- Milos Island Highlights
Tour MLO001
Approximately 4.0 hours
Volcanic Milos, the westernmost of the
Cyclades Islands, has stunning beaches, coves
and geologically interesting places. Since
antiquity, the island has been quarried for
its minerals—particularly obsidian, a hard,
black volcanic glass used for manufacturing
sharp blades. You will visit the Sarakiniko
Beach with its lunar-like landscape that is
the outcome of volcanic eruptions. You
will see the Neolithic town of Filakopi, the
picturesque capital of the Adamas Island,
perched 750 feet above sea level with
breathtaking views of the island. And don't
miss viewing the spot where the Ancient Greek
Venus de Milo statue was discovered in 1920, as well as the Roman theater. Your guide will
discuss the early Christian catacombs on the
island before you return to your ship.

Sample Shore Excursions:
- Mystras, the Byzantine City
Tour GYT 001
Approximately 4 hours
Your tour will cross the plain of Laconia
through orange and olive groves and with
the mighty Taygetus Mountain in the
background. Sparta today is a big, modern
town. As the original Spartans cared little for
buildings and lived a “Spartan” existence in
barracks, their ancient architecture was simple
and basic. Today, its scanty remains reflect
little of its ancient renown. Four miles west,
however, lies the medieval town of Mystras -
a UNESCO World Heritage Site - with its
churches and houses, monasteries and palaces
lining the steep narrow streets. For 200 years,
from the middle of the 13th century, this
Byzantine town flourished. From the mid-15th century until the beginning of the 20th
century the town was in constant decline, with
the exception of a few years during which it
was under Venetian control. However, the
magnificence of the Byzantine architecture
remarkably preserved and sensitively restored,
gives the visitor the impression of entering
a whole different age. Take a walk through
winding alleys and majestic gates, past
medieval houses, palaces and into a series of
churches, several of which house exquisite
and radiant frescoes. The 1249 castle
dominating the city was once in the hands
of the Byzantines. In the Upper Town
stood the Palace of the Despots, a rare
specimen of civic buildings of that time, and
its Grand Hall still well preserved. Situated
even higher is the Palace Church of Aghia
Sophia and the ruins of numerous monastic
buildings.

Sample Shore Excursions:
- A Taste of Capri
Tour PRJ002
Approximately 4.5 hours
A tender will transfer you to Marina Grande,
and from there you will travel by minibus
to Anacapri. During the drive, admire the
vista over the Bay of Naples and Sorrento.
In Anacapri, you will visit Villa San
Michele, once house of the Swedish writer
Axel Munthe, and nowadays an interesting
museum. Alternatively, you may choose to
climb Monte Solaro for 360 degree panorama
over the Gulf of Naples with Mt. Vesuvius
in the background, the Gulf of Salerno, the
Anacapri plain, the Sorrentine Peninsula,
Ischia Island, and Capri. Enjoy time at leisure
to stroll in the narrow streets of Anacapri
town, stopping for tasting of some local wine and cheese. Later, you will return to Capri
and visit the well-known piazzetta and the
famous Augustus Gardens. Look out to sea to
view the Faraglioni - enormous rocks forming
natural arches. Afterward return by funicular
to Marina Grande to board the tender back to
the ship.
