Spend a fantastic day exploring Split, a product of 17 centuries of building and renovating that beautifully blends
the modern city with the old. At the heart of this sprawling cityscape is the famed palace that the Emperor Diocletian
built for his golden years at the beginning of the 4th Century. What started as an imperial residence and fortified camp
became an intriguing warren of narrow cobblestone streets lined with pre-Romanesque churches beside Gothic chapels,
history filled museums, galleries of contemporary art and many inviting restaurants and cafes.
Your tour begins with a guided walking tour through the Old Town and its spectacular palace. The first stop is the palace
cellars, which offer a fascinating view of how palace life was organized. Then it's on to the very interesting Cathedral
of St. Duje, the city's patron saint, built on the remains of an ancient shrine and a visit to the charming Temple of
Jupiter. Other sights you will see are the Golden Gate, the Silver Gate and Peristyle Square. At the end of the walking
tour visit the colorful market or explore more of the town on your own before joining your coach for the drive to charming
Trogir, your next stop.
Located on a small island, cross the bridge to Trogir and enter a spectacular world that is like an open-air museum. Behind
its towers and walls lie green parks, stone houses, palaces, churches, monasteries, and narrow streets. Savor your visit
of the 13th Century Cathedral of St. Lawrence, probably the finest example of sacred architecture in Croatia and the city's
main attraction. Its unusual construction of three naves and three semi-circular apses dominates the town. And, in the 13th
Century, a local artist named Radovan carved the world famous main portal. Then enjoy seeing the Loggia, the Town Hall and
Cipiko Palace. After your walking tour spend some time exploring on your own before returning to Split where you will visit
a local wine cellar.
Located near Bacvice beach, the owners have resurrected a ruined cellar into a unique Enoteka using a lot of imagination,
patience and love. The thick stone walls provide atmosphere and keep the temperature at a natural level for the wine.
Enjoy sampling the fine selection of Dalmatian wines served in glasses handmade especially for wine connoisseurs along
with various cuts of cold game meats, salamis, and domestic desserts. Then it will be time to return to the ship
