It would have been nice to know that the bus rides to and from Salzburg, Munich, and Bratislava were 1.5 - 2 hours long. This info would have played in our decision to book the excursion or not.

This was our first river cruise. It was a wonderful cruise, great stops, great people, and well organized. We will definitely be taking another Viking cruise! Highly recommend adding on the Prague extension.
Pros: The ship was excellent. Clean, good food, and good service. Everyone was so polite and helpful. Our bartender Zorn was AMAZING!
Cons: Weather could have been better but nothing Viking could control. A bit cold and wet with a dusting of snow. The lounge entertainment needs to be stepped up a bit.

I guess I am not well suited to river cruises but it was worth doing at least once.
Pros: food was excellent; stateroom was very comfortable, everything was so clean, some extraordinary viking employees traveling companions interesting
Cons: service was uneven, seemed like there were short a few folks, offshore excursions were okay, not special, not enough free time for my taste

We would have liked to have sailed on the Gullveig all the way to Nuremberg. However, an accident on the Danube prevented the ship from cruising beyond Linz. Viking and the Gullveig did a wonderful job of arranging motor coach transportation for those going on the tours to Gottweig Abbey and Salzsburg, etc., and for then taking those guest to the Egil at Straubing. The staffs of both ships should be commended for making our trip pleasant and enjoyable.

We determined an ocean cruise on a bigger ship and with more activities and meal choices was more suitable to our tastes (and for anyone with active lifestyle). Would not do again but hesitate not to recommend becsuse based on personal preferences.
Pros: Attentive staff, clean/comfortable stateroom, outstanding social/program director,
Cons: Food (small portions, limited menu, average quality), limited activities on ship
