Khushbagh, literally meaning "Garden of Happiness," is a serene and historically significant garden-cemetery located on the west bank of the Bhagirathi River (a distributary of the Hooghly River), near the city of Murshidabad in West Bengal, India. It serves as the final resting place for the Nawabs of Bengal from the Afshar dynasty and their family members, including the renowned Nawab Alivardi Khan and his grandson, Nawab Siraj ud-Daulah, the last independent Nawab of Bengal, who was defeated in the Battle of Plassey in 1757.
Built by Nawab Alivardi Khan in the 18th century, Khushbagh is a walled enclosure spanning approximately 7.65 acres. It combines Islamic architectural styles with lush gardens, offering a tranquil atmosphere for contemplation and a poignant glimpse into the region's rich but tumultuous Nawabi past.
